Softball Wraps Up Spring Break Trip in Doubleheader Split with Ursuline

MELBOURNE, F.L. - Felician softball (5-15) wrapped up their spring break trip at the Space Coast Invitational Wednesday afternoon when they split the doubleheader series with Ursuline College.

In a tight knit game one, the Golden Falcons secured the 1-0 victory over the Arrows and ultimately dropped in game two, 3-6, after a huge Arrow second inning.

GAME ONE: 1-0 VICTORY
Here's What Happened:
  • This is going to be short and sweet because throughout each inning, including the top of the third when Felician posted their winning run and the lone run of the contest, it was four to five batters per frame.
  • Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) had herself a week at the top of the line up when she tripled down the left field line to be put in scoring position with one out. Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) poked a sacrifice hit for the O'Reilly run, 1-0.
  • The top of the seventh showed promise for more Felician runs when Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.), and Sadie Kittoe (Winchester, V.A.) were sitting on third and second. However, they were unable to come home and extend that Felician lead for a safety net.
  • Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) got the job done in three at bats striking out the first and grounding out the final two for the 1-0 victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • Victorie Leon (Sylmar, C.A.) went 2-2 at the plate with a walk while O'Reilly went 1-4 with the solo run. Ramirez recorded the RBI in game one.
  • Williams recorded her fourth win of the season in a complete game of 7.0 innings and struck out seven Arrow batters.

GAME TWO: 3-6 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
  • Felician kept their momentum going when they added three runs in the bottom of the first when O'Reilly, Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.), and Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) touched home, 3-0. However, a dominating second inning for the Arrows allowed them to grasp their first lead of the day when they recorded five to push Felician into a two-run hole, 3-5.
  • As the Arrows featured their final run of game two, 3-6, the Golden Falcons had one more change to equalize or secure the sweep. In the seventh inning, Steinmetz and Leon both singled for two base runners early in the inning with no outs. Alessandra Colon (North Brunswick, N.J.) shifted both into scoring position but the Arrows sealed the deal with a strike out and a fly out for the 3-6 Felician defeat.

Box Score Insights:
  • Steinmetz and Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.) went 2-4 while Leon went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.) started in the circle for 1.1 innings pitched and a strikeout while Brown finished the day with 5.2 innings pitched.
