MELBOURNE, F.L. - Felician softball recorded the first ever meeting with the University of Illinois - Springfield Prairie Stars Tuesday afternoon in Melbourne, F.L. for a doubleheader.
Through both contests, the Golden Falcons fell short of their opposers as they dropped 2-5 and 5-9 in their respective contests.
GAME ONE: 2-5 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
- In game one, the Golden Falcons has the 2-1 advantage over UIS when Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) featured aggressive baserunning by scoring on a wild pitch and Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) bringing home the go-ahead run with an RBI single.
- After the green-and-gold's lead changing bottom third performance, the Golden Falcons were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest with the Prairie Stars tallied four in the top of the fifth to hold the 2-5 advantage for the game on victory.
Box Score Insights:
- Steinemetz went 2-2 at the plate with a walk and an RBI to lead the squad while Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.) went 1-2 with a walk. Both Felician batters recorded a double in the contest and O'Reilly swiped a base.
- Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) was in the circle for game one and pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO: 5-9 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
- By the end of the first inning, the Golden Falcons trailed the Prarie Stars by a single run, 1-2 until the next inning where the green-and-gold recorded two runs for the 3-2 score flip. Their opposer would tally three in the bottom of the first and another four by the fifth to grasp the 4-9 lead over Felician.
- The Golden Falcons posted a run in the top of the sixth in hopes to ignite some momentum to catch up to the opposer lead, but to no avail and Felician fell 5-9.
Box Score Insights:
- Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.) went 2-3 with two runs, Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) went 1-3 with two RBIs and Layla Albarran (Whittier, C.A.) went 1-2 with an RBI.
- Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.) was the starting pitcher for game two and pitched 3.0 innings and struck out one, Williams made her second appearance on the day in relief to pitch 2.0 innings, and Brown closed the game with 3.0 innings pitched.
