Albarran Records First Collegiate Home Run Versus #24 Wilmington (Del.)

WILMINGTON, D.E. - Felician softball (7-19 / 2-2 CACC) traveled to Wilmington, D.E. to face off with #24 Wilmington University (Del.) Wildcats for another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on a brisk Friday afternoon. 

In the event, the Golden Falcons ultimately dropped in both games. 

GAME ONE: 7 INNINGS
Here's What Happened:
  • Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.) got the Golden Falcons going with a top of the first two run homer for the squad's first two runs of the game. The Wildcats kept up with Felician and tied it up after the bottom of the first, and Layla Albarran (Whittier, C.A.) posted her first collegiate career home run in the top of the second to edge the Wildcats, 3-2. 
  • The hosts were able to snag the lead soon after with two more runs, 3-4, and by the top of the fourth the green-and-gold converted on a throwing error for another run for the tie at four. 
  • However, despite the Golden Falcons efforts, the Wildcats rallied six - five in the bottom of the fourth - to secure the game one victory through seven innings, 4-10. 
Box Score Insights:
  • Velotta went 3-4 with two RBIs and a home run while Albarran went 2-3 with an RBI and a home run. 
  • Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) went 1-2 with a run and a walk. 
  • Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) started in the circle for the squad and pitched 5.0 innings and had three strike outs while Mikalya Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.) pitched 1.0 innings to wrap up the game. 
GAME TWO: 5 INNINGS
Here's What Happened:
  • The Golden Falcons would survive the first two innings with the hosts as both teams were held scoreless throughout, but the Wildcats finally posted their first run of the game in the bottom of the third to run away with game two in just five innings 0-8.
Box Score Insights:
  • Albarran, Martinez and Sadie Kittoe (Winchester, V.A.) went 1-2 at the plate in game two. Velotta posted the lone walk. 
  • Williams recorded three more strike outs from the circle.

Felician Softball will return to action in Little Ferry, N.J. when they host Post University on Wednesday, Mar. 27, for a doubleheader starting at 2:30pm.
