Softball Defeats Post University at Home; Howard Sets All-Time Record

LITTLE FERRY, N.J. - Felician softball (9-19 / 4-2 CACC) hosted Post University at Shannon Dalton Forde Field in Little Ferry, N.J. for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up Wednesday afternoon.

In the event, the Golden Falcons secured the 5-inning victory in game one, which featured Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.) breaking the career triples record and the team tying the all-time record with seven stolen bases, and took game two on a Post error.

GAME ONE: 5-INNINGS
Here's What Happened:
  • Felician opened up the day with a run in the first inning on a Victorie Leon (Slymar, C.A.) RBI double, 1-0.
  • Howard came up to bat in the second inning and she came into the day with 16 triples, tied with the all-time record that was held since the 2015 season. With two Golden Falcon outs, the senior stepped up to the plate and jammed a triple into the game of right center to shatter the record and add another run for the green-and-gold, 2-0.
  • The Golden Falcons' largest inning was in the bottom of the third when they tallied five on hits by Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.), Makayla De La Rosa (Winchester, C.A.), Sadie Kittoe (Winchester, V.A.), and a sac fly by Howard, 7-0.
  • At the fifth innings, the hosts reached the mercy rule of eight runs when Kittoe posted a sac fly and sent home Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) for the game one victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • Howard went 1-1 with a career breaking triple and two RBIs while Kittoe went 1-2 with three RBIs.
  • De La Rosa and Martinez also went 1-2 at the plate.
  • Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) was just shy of her third career no hitter when she pitched 5.0 innings, struck out four and surrendered one hit.
  • The Golden Falcons tied the all-time stolen base record with seven, with Martinez swiping two and De La Rosa, Kittoe, Brown, Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.), and Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) stole one.
GAME TWO: 7-INNNINGS
Here's What Happened:
  • Game two was a different story in which it went scoreless through 6.5 innings. Williams found herself in a jam with bases loaded and runners in scoring position but the Eagles were left stranded each time to ultimately be shut out by the sophomore.
  • Felician was quick in their offense with three outs every three batters. Come the bottom of the seventh, Ramirez led off for the squad with a single and was sent around the horn on a bunting attempt when the Eagles catcher over thew first base for the 1-0 victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • Ramirez went 2-3 during game two and Howard went 1-2 for the three green-and-gold hits.
  • Williams pitched a complete game of 7.0 innings and struck out four.
UP NEXT: GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
The Golden Falcons will hit the road to Lakewood, N.J. for another CACC doubleheader with Georgian Court University on April 2nd. First pitch scheduled for 12:00pm.
