Game Recap: Softball |

Extended Game Two Gives Softball the Split with Queens (N.Y.)

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Felician softball (10-20 / 4-2 CACC) featured a battle of a Sunday non-conference doubleheader game with Queens (N.Y.) College in Flushing, N.Y.

The Golden Falcons dropped in game one when the Knights fought back midway through, however, in a nine inning game two, Felician came out victorious for the doubleheader split.

GAME ONE: 7-8 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
  • Victorie Leon (Sylmar, C.A.) and Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) aided in the three green-and-gold runs to kick off the day and Queens was able to equalize in bottom, 3-3.
  • Felician went on to score three more through the second and third innings for the 6-3 advantage thanks to Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) and Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) RBI at bats.
  • Similar to how the Golden Falcons held the Knights scoreless through two innings, the hosts did the same to the squad and they were able to snag the 6-8 lead with just two innings remaining.
  • O'Reilly touched home for the final time on a Queens error, but the Golden falcons came up short for the 7-8 game one loss.
Box Score Insights:
  • O'Reilly went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI and Makayla De La Rosa (Winchester, C.A.) went 2-4.
  • Ramirez went 1-2 with two walks.
  • The Golden Falcons swiped six bases: two apiece from O'Reilly and Martinez, one from Ramirez and Howard.
  • Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.) started game one with 3.0 innings pitched and Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.) came in for relief for 1.0 innings. Williams recorded the loss in game one with 2.0 innings pitched and struck out three.
GAME TWO: NINE INNING WIN
Here's What Happened:
  • The first run of game two didn't happen until the third when Felician posted two on runs by Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.) and Layla Albarran (Whittier, C.A.) while the Knights added four, 2-4.
  • Whenever the Golden Falcons scored, the Knights would one-up the green-and-gold. In the fifth, Felician added one more run to trail by one, but with a two run bottom half of the inning, the Knights edged with two, 3-6.
  • Felician tied the game in seventh when Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) and Martinez posted RBI at bats and pushed the game to extra innings.
  • The Knights kept up with the Golden Falcons with three runs each in the eighth, but it was the Golden Falcons who came out victorious in the ninth on a Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.) sacrifice fly for the 10-9 win.
Box Score Insights:
  • Velotta went 3-5 with three RBI while Martinez and Steinmetz went 2-4.
  • Martinez and Albarran had two RBI each and O'Reilly, Steinmetz and Howard had one.
  • Williams bounced back in game two for the win when she relieved Jazel Lopez (Carson, C.A.) - who pitched the opening 5.0 innings and struck out a Knight. Williams finished the 3.2 remaining innings and struck out tree.
