SHIPPENSBURG, P.A. - Felician softball (3-7) hit the road to Shippensburg University for a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
After the conclusion of both events, the Golden Falcons dropped twice to the Raiders, one in five innings.
GAME ONE: 2-7 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
- In the opening contest between the two squads, in which this is the second overall meeting in history for the teams, the hosts rallied their seven runs for the win through five innings.
- After Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch in the sixth, the Golden Falcons got the bats going to shift Martinez in scoring position on a Layla Albarran (Whittier, C.A.) single and ultimately sent home for their first run of the day by Makayla De La Rosa (Winchester, C.A.), 1-7.
- With only one out and runners in scoring position, the green-and-gold touched home one more time in game one when Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.) slammed a RBI single, 2-7. However, the positive sixth inning for the squad was not enough to surpass the hosts and they dropped in game one, 2-7.
Box Score Insights:
- Albarran went 3-3 at the plate while De La Rosa went 1-3 (RBI) and Brown 1-2 (RBI).
- Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.) recorded the lone double of the contest in the fifth inning and De La Rosa snagged a stolen base.
- Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) started in the circle for the Golden Falcons and pitched 6.0 innings to strike out one Raider.
GAME TWO: 5-14 LOSS (5 INN.)
Here's What Happened:
- With the commencement of game two, the Golden Falcons started off on a clean slate. Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) recorded a home run into left field for the swift 2-0 lead when she also sent home Howard, who reached first on a Raider throwing error.
- The hosts was able to keep their hot swings with a run in the bottom of the second, but the green-and-gold largest inning of the day was featured in the third after tallying three runs. Sadie Kittoe (Winchester, V.A.) slammed a double and Victorie Leon (Sylmar, C.A.) had a single for the RBI at bats for the three runs of the inning for the squad, 5-1.
- As game two was shifting in Felician's favor, the hosts were able to come within one, 5-4, of the green-and-gold and eventually snagged the lead to end the game in five innings, 5-14.
Box Score Insights:
- Steinmetz led game two going 2-3 with a two-run homer while Albarran and Kittoe also went 2-3.
- Martinez went 1-2 with a walk and Brown went 0-1 with two walks.
- Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.) started the second contest and pitched 3.2 innings and struck out one.
