LYNDHURST, N.J. - Felician baseball (7-11) returned to Breslin Field in Lyndhurst, N.J. to kick off a three-game series with the American International College Yellow Jackets Friday afternoon.
After the nine-innings concluded, the Golden Falcons posted an 8-1 victory with starting pitcher,
Mike Caldon (Matawan, N.J.) leading the charge for his first win of the 2024 campaign.
Here's What Happened:
- Felician started the day with a run in the bottom of the first when Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J.) recorded an RBI single to send home Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, N.J.) for the immediate 1-0 advantage.
- The Yellow Jackets were able to hold the green-and-gold to that lone run for the next two innings, however, they couldn't be contained for long. By the bottom of the fourth, Dauri Genao (West New York, N.J.) led off for the the squad's largest inning with a left field double. Jose David Medrano (North Bergen, N.J.) then sent home Genao, 2-0, and the bases soon became loaded with no outs.
- After a line out double play to the shortstop, Felician was still able to rally two more runs, thanks to Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, F.L.) and Kendrick, to complete the inning for the 5-0 advantage.
- To avoid the shutout, the Yellow Jackets tallied their lone run in the top of the sixth, 5-1, and as the contest concluded, the Golden Falcons recorded three more throughout to secure the 8-1 non-conference victory.
Box Score Insights:
- As a unit, the Golden Falcons posted eight walks with Chris Biolsi () having four of them to tie the all-time record for walks in a game.
- Genao and Medrano went 4-5 with two RBIs apiece while Voss went 2-3 with two talks and one RBI.
- Kendrick was 3-5 with two RBIs and two runs and Biolsi finished the day going 1-1 with the walks.
- For Caldon's win, he pitched 6.0 innings and struck out seven and did not surrender one walk. Relief pitcher, Logan Waltz (Hazlet, N.J.) pitched 2.0 innings with four strike outs and the closer for the green-and-gold was Kyle Bednarski (West Milford, N.J.) who recorded a three-up, three-down top nine inning to seal the win.
The Golden Falcons will be back in action tomorrow for the doubleheader portion of the series with AIC with game one scheduled to start at 11:00am.
