LITTLE FERRY, N.J. - Felician softball (15-23 / 9-5 CACC) hosted Dominican (N.Y.) University at Shannon Dalton Forde Field Sunday afternoon for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader.
Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) secured both wins from the circle, one of them being a shut out, after pitching two complete games for the green-and-gold.
GAME ONE: 2-0 WIN
Here's What Happened:
- Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.) recorded an RBI at bat in the bottom of the first for the Golden Falcons first run of the day and eventually by the third, Velotta was up to bat once more when the squad took advantage of a Charger throwing error and Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) scored, 2-0.
- Through the remainder of game one, Felician and Williams posted three-up and three-down innings despite a Charger double in the final frame of the seventh for a runner in scoring position with one out.
- Two routine ground outs sealed the deal for the game one shut out win for the hosts.
Box Score Insights:
- Velotta posted the lone RBI of the opening contest of the afternoon and went 1-3 at the plate. Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.) went 1-2 with a walk and Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) went 1-3.
- Williams struck out seven Charger batters and walked none in her first victory of the day.
GAME TWO: 5-4 WIN
Here's What Happened:
- Freshman Layla Albarran (Whittier, C.A.) got the second game started with a sac fly to put Felician on the board first after the third inning. By the end of the fifth, the Golden Falcons recorded two more runs by a Charger error and a RBI at bat from Steinmetz, 3-0.
- Dominican avoided a shut out when they scored in the top half of the sixth and eventually cut the green-and-gold deficit to one, 3-2.
- Howard bombed her fourth triple of the weekend (three versus Jefferson on Saturday) and was sent home on a Ramirez sac fly to edge their opponents, 5-2.
- With Felician looking to secure their three final outs of the contest, Williams found herself in a jam with bases loaded and two ous. The Chargers threatened the hosts with a double, scoring two, and placed the go-ahead run in scoring position.
- The sophomore pitcher battled in the circle and jammed the batter for a fly out to right field for the final out and the 5-4 victory.
