Steinmetz, Howard Notch Homers in Doubleheader with Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. - Felician Softball (17-23 / 11-5 CACC) entered a lengthy doubleheader with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents, Caldwell University, Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons combined for 28 hits for 29 runs through two games for the high scoring doubleheader sweep of the Cougars.

GAME ONE: 16-12 WIN
Here's What Happened:
  • Caldwell posted three runs in the bottom of the first to force Felician in an immediate deficit to ignite the first game of the day. Through the third to fifth inning, the Golden Falcons collectively recorded 15 runs with Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.) kick starting the green-and-gold offense with a RBI single. Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) jammed another RBI at bat for two more runs and the Golden Falcons are out in front, 5-3.
  • With the Cougars sitting behind the squad by one after a two run bottom three, Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.), and Velotta put Felician back up by three, 7-5. However, Steinmetz bombed a three run homer for a Felician dagger as she extended the advantage to 10-5 after the fourth.
  • The fifth inning was the final five run inning for the Golden Falcons that created a safety net for their lead as Caldwell rallied back in the bottom of the seventh and ultimately was upended by green-and-gold for Felician's 16-12 game one win.
