Softball Clinches Playoff Berth on Senior Day in Split with Lightning

LITTLE FERRY, N.J. - Felician Softball (19-29 / 13-9 CACC) hosted Goldey-Beacom College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Shannon Dalton Forde Field for their senior day celebrations.

In between contests, Felician honored four seniors, Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.), Mia Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.), Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.), and Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.). At the end of both games, the Golden Falcons split with the Lightning to clinch their spot in the CACC playoffs and the first round set for this Saturday, Apr. 27.

GAME ONE: 1-2 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
  • The first inning featured an eventful style of play on both sides, with the Lightning scoring first for the 1-0 lead and Velotta posting a double to set the career doubles record for the equalizer at 1.
  • In the second inning, Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) set the newest standard for strikeouts in a second when she notched her 140th of 2024 from the circle. However, this is the inning in which the Lightning took the lead 1-2 and the score remained the same for the remainder of the contest for the Felician defeat.
Box Score Insights:

  • Williams pitched a complete game to strike out four to seal the deal on the season strike out record.

GAME TWO: 10-6 VICTORY
Here's What Happened:
  • During game two, the seniors shined to cap off their final home contest of the season. The Lightning out in front with three runs in the top half of the second but would see the Golden Falcons edge their advantage when they scored four on a Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.) and O'Reilly RBI at bats - two each, 4-3.
  • Once the opposers tallied three more in the third, that would be their final time holding an lead over the hosts. Mikayla De La Rosa (Whittier, C.A.) posted an RBI single for the rally of green-and-gold runs that ultimately loaded the bases for Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) for the tie at six.
  • From here on out, it was all senior highlights as Martinez and Howards both homered to left field for the 9-6 lead that was extended to 10-6 in the final frame for the green-and-gold on a Martinez sac fly.
