MOVING ON! #2 Felician Baseball Topples #3 Caldwell in First Round Sweep

LYNDHURST, N.J. - N#2 Felician baseball hosted the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference postseason when they welcomed N#3 Caldwell University Friday afternoon.

Friday's format was a best of three game series and the Golden Falcons secured the sweep of the Cougars to find themselves heading back to Waterbury, C.T. next Thursday to defend their 2023 title.

GAME ONE: 7-3 WIN
Here's What Happened:
  • Felician wasted no time in getting runs on the board as they tallied five through the first three innings of the day. Three of the five runs came from Dauri Genao (West New York, N.J.) who posted two hits in the first and second inning and allowed Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, F.L.) to steal home when he stole second.
  • The Cougars tallied one in an attempt to get themselves in a groove, but the defensive side for the opponents handed Felician another run, 1-6.
  • Genao posted one more RBI at bat on a sac fly for the final run of the day and the squad edged the Cougars for the first win of the day, 7-3.
Box Score Insights:
  • Mike Caldon recorded 12 strike outs through six innings and tied for second-all time for strike outs in a game with that number. The bullpen of Gavin Enright (Oakland, N.J.) and Daniel Kiristis (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) raked in a collective four strike outs to have a total of 16 in game one for the green-and-gold from the mound.
  • Genao went a perfect 4-4 at the plate with four RBI and Walters went 2-4. Chris Biolsi (Edison, N.J.) recorded an RBI going 1-3.

GAME TWO: 13-1 WIN
Here's What Happened:
  • Genao stayed hot throughout the second contest and recorded his fifth RBI of the day for the first run for Felician, 1-0. The Cougars equalized the score in the next inning at one, but that would be the last time they would round the horn.
  • In the third and fourth innings, the Golden Falcons rallied six runs with the help of Walters, Alex Torres (Jackson, N.J.), and a couple of Cougar errors.
  • The seventh inning was the dagger for the Cougars as Felician recorded six runs on five hits and three errors to essentially put away the game to allow Felician to advance to the next round.
  • Jack Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, N.J.) put the cherry on top of the sweep when he bombed an eighth inning home run and sealed the deal, 13-1.
Box Score Insights:
  • Genao went 3-5 with a RBI as well as Walters who tallied four RBI. Andrew DeAngelis (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Torres went 2-4.
  • Scrivanic went 2-5 with two RBI.
  • Logan Waltz (Hazlet, N.J.) started on the mound to strike out eight through seven innings while Jordan Savinon (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Nick DeCarlo (Jackson, N.J.) finished the job.

UP NEXT: #1 JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY
The Golden Falcons will hit the road to Waterbury, C.T. to play the Rams at 11:00am on May 9th in the double elimination round. If Felician were to win, they will move onto the next day, however, if they fall to their opponents they will play at 5:00pm (the loser of Wilmington and Post) on the 9th.
