East Rutherford NJ - Felician's Women's Volleyball team began their second day at the Alaska Fairbanks tournament going up against UNC Pembroke. The Golden Falcons came into this match with the thought of erasing what transpired yesterday. With them starting off winning the first set, Felician couldn't keep the foot on the gas as they would go down to UNC Pembroke 3-1 bringing their overall record to 2-5. Here's a breakdown of what occurred.
Starting off the first set, the Golden Falcons would start with their backs against the wall with the opposing team taking the lead 7-2. This wouldn't hold Felician down as kills by
Sally Plagainos,
Karla Maldonado, and
Megan Barker brought them back. UNC Pembroke having multiple errors helped the Golden Falcons stay within this first set and led to them going on a 8 point run with
Megan Barker getting the last two kills to give Felician their first set win in this match up. Going into the second set, the Golden Falcons wanted to keep the pressure on and starting off 5-1 they sure did. The Golden Falcons kept their hopes alive with help from
Tatum Williams having 3 kills within the first 10 points for Felician, however UNC Pembroke would go on a 6 point run bringing the score to 13-8. While Felician tried to make a comeback, the opposing team kept pushing ahead leading to them winning the second set bringing the score to 1-1. Set 3, with both teams aiming to get the lead, would bring the best out of both of them. Both teams would transition scores throughout this entire set, kills by Felician, the UNC Pembroke, errors by Felician, then by UNC Pembroke, but in the end it would be UNC Pembroke winning this set 25-22 bringing the score to 2-1. Going into the fourth set, the Golden Falcons wanted to bring the same firepower into this set to push this match to the 5th set.
Ashanna Caviness would start things off for the Golden Falcons, however UNC Pembroke went on a 8 point run to bring the score to 16-6. With the help by
Aly Reeser and Rowan Jenson to bring the score closer, it wouldn't be enough as UNC Pembroke would score the last 2 points bringing the score to 25-17 that would give Felician the loss in this contest.
