Aly Reeser Makes History During Match Against Slippery Rock

East Rutherford NJ - Felician University Women's Volleyball competes in their final match at the Alaska Fairbanks tournament against Slippery Rock. In what would be a close matchup throughout this contest, the Golden Falcons look to build off of this tournament and bring what they learned back to New Jersey. Here's a breakdown of what transpired.

Set one would be a tough competition, with both sides going on hot streaks to give one another the lead. Kills by #7 Karla Maldonado and #18 Ashanna Caviness helped keep the Golden Falcons obtaining points while #4 Aly Reeser kept obtaining countless digs making sure to keep the points alive. In what would lead to needing a few extra points to deside a winner of the first set, Slippery Rock would win 27-25, bringing the score to 1-0. Going into the second set, the Golden Falcons aimed to make a comeback to even the score. Slippery Rock however would stay ahead this entire set. The Golden Falcons still didn't stay down as Aly Reeser obtained more digs throughout this second half helping earn more points for Felician. Kills by #10 Megan Barker, Ashanna Caviness, and Karla Maldonado kept their hopes alive but Slippery Rock would win 25-19 bringing the score to 2-0.  With their backs on the wall, the Golden Falcons were ready to heat things up by going on a 7 point run to kick the third set off. The serving style of Karla Maldonado helped the Golden Falcons keep their hopes alive throughout this set, with the additional help by Megan Barker and the setting ability by #1 Sophia Watterson helped them win this set 26-24 to bring the score to 2-1. In the fourth set, it would be all Slippery Rock as they made sure the Golden Falcons didn't have a chance of obtaining the lead. With some kills coming from #5 Elisia Hamilton, Megan Barker, and Karla Maldonado, Slippery Rock would end up winning this contest 3-1.

The Golden Falcons Player of the Game goes to #4 Aly Reeser. She has officially broken a record of having the most digs in one match with totaling 39 digs. This record hasn't been touched since 2019 where it once was 38 digs. Aly Reeser has also been awarded All-Tournament for her play-making style during this entire tournament. Huge congratulations to her and for her obtaining this record. 

The Golden Falcons are back on the court this Wednesday at home when they go up against Post University in their first CACC Conference matchup at 7 PM. The Golden Falcons aim to bring everything they learned in Alaska and implement it throughout the rest of their 2024 season.
