East Rutherford, NJ - Felician Universities Women's Volleyball Team hosted a Tri-Match between Pace University and Lincoln University. It was heavily competitive throughout each set, coming down to the wire, but at the end of the day the Golden Falcons would finish losing to Pace 3-1, but getting the victory over Lincoln 3-0, bringing their record to 2-1 to start off the year. Here's a recap from each game.
Felician Vs Pace - The Golden Falcons started off the first set on fire with a 7-4 score, with kills coming from Elisia Hamilton and Karla Maldonado. However, the opposing team started battling back, making the first set a hard fought battle, but leading to Pace earning the first point. Going into the second set, the Golden Falcons kept fighting and battling, with kills coming from Ashanna Caviness, bringing it to a tie 24-24, however it would be Pace pushing ahead bringing it to 2-0 Pace. Going into the third set, with the team's backs on the wall, being behind 10-2, the team began their comeback, with the help from Aly Reeser, bringing the score back to even. It would be Megan Barker to finish it off bringing a set 3 victory for Felician, bringing the score to 2-1. Heading into the 4th set, Felician would start off hot once again bringing the score to 7-3, but Pace would come back to tie the score. In what became another back and forth battle, it would be Pace that pushed ahead winning this match 3-1, giving Felician their first loss of the young season.
Felician Vs Lincoln - After having a breather while Pace and Lincoln competed, the Golden Falcons were looking to come back stronger and better than before. The Golden Falcons would start the first set hot, starting off 7-2 with kills coming from the entire team. Lincoln would come back from this deficit, but the Falcons turned things up a notch, going on a 9 point run, winning the first set. Going into the second set, the Golden Falcons look to keep the pressure alive and that's exactly what they did, starting off 7-4. Kills by Kelly Samano helped the Falcons keep the lead and brought them on another 9 point run, which helped bring another set victory bringing it to 2-0. Leading into the 3rd set, looking to make it a sweep, Lincoln started battling back as it would be a battle to kick things off. Once the score got to 8-7, the Golden Falcons went on another hot streak with another 10 point run with Sophia Watterson making sure each of her serves brought a point back for Felician. The Golden Falcons would keep the pressure going, with another set victory bringing them the match win, 3-0.
The Falcons Player of the Day - The Falcons Player of the Day goes to Karla Maldonado, totaling 18 kills, 20.5 points, and 18 digs in both matches.
Next Game - The Golden Falcons will be back on the court this upcoming Tuesday evening when they go up against Queen's College at 7 PM. The Golden Falcons look to add another victory before heading to the northwest for their Alaska Fairbanks Tournament.
