Philadelphia, PA. - The Felician women's basketball team fell to conference leader Holy Family, 60-45, on Saturday afternoon.
Felician battled throughout the game but was unable to overcome a slow start, as Holy Family used a strong first half to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Golden Falcons struggled offensively in the opening 20 minutes, shooting just 7-of-34 from the field. Holy Family built a 29-14 halftime lead behind timely three-point shooting and second chance opportunities.
Despite the deficit, Felician responded in the third quarter with 60 percent shooting (9-of-15), outscoring Holy Family 18-12. Back-to-back baskets in the paint trimmed the margin to single digits and a late jumper by
Katherine Ritchie brought Felician within 39-30 heading into the fourth.
The Tigers answered early in the final quarter with a 7-0 run to push the lead. Felician cut the deficit to 10 multiple times, including a fast break layup by
Mckenzie Palek. Holy Family later closed the game on a 6-1 run to secure the win.
Stephanie Formby led Felician with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Ane Valle added 16 points with six rebounds, as Palek added six points and six boards. Felician scored 32 of its 45 points in the paint and forced 15 turnovers.
Felician will look to bounce back on Wednesday, February 25 as they host Bridgeport. The team will also honor their seniors before tip-off, scheduled for 5:30 PM.
