Waterbury, CT. - The Felician University women's basketball team held off a late push from Post University to secure a 65-56 road victory on Tuesday night.
The Golden Falcons set the tone early, jumping out to an 18-11 lead after the opening quarter behind aggressive defense and strong interior play. Post responded in the second period, briefly taking the lead, but Felician closed the half on a 6-0 run to carry a 28-27 advantage into the break.
Felician regained control in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 15-11 to extend its lead, before sealing the win at the free-throw line in the fourth. The Golden Falcons scored 22 points in the final quarter and went 12-for-18 from the stripe to keep Post behind.Â
Ane Valle led Felician with a double-double, including 24 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Stephanie Formby contributed 13 points and six rebounds, as
Lilla Szilvassy posted an 11-point, 18-rebound double-double.
Felician dominated the glass with a 56-34 rebounding advantage and finished with 38 points in the paint.
The team will travel to Dobbs Ferry, New York to take on Mercy. Tip-off is set for Thursday, February 5 at 5:00 PM.
