Women's Basketball Drives Past Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Felician University women's basketball team continued its strong stretch on Wednesday night, earning a 77-67 non-conference win over Mercy.

The Golden Falcons set the tone early, building a 23-13 advantage after one quarter behind efficient shooting and interior scoring. Felician maintained control through the first half, extending its lead to 42-30 at the break and holding Mercy without a field goal for the final two minutes of the second quarter.

Felician came out firing in the third, opening the half on a 15-8 run to push the lead to as many as 19 points. The team shot nearly 59 percent in the frame and leaned on ball movement and paint touches to keep Mercy behind, taking a 63-47 lead into the final quarter.

Mercy made a late push in the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit to 11 points with under three minutes remaining, but Felician answered at the free-throw line and on the defensive end to seal the win.

Stephanie Formby led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting while adding nine rebounds. Ane Valle chipped in 16 points and six assists, while Karla Barreno and Mckenzie Palek each finished with 13 points. Lilla Szilvassy contributed seven rebounds, four steals, and three blocks to anchor the defense.

Felician shot 51.7 percent from the field and scored 46 points in the paint, while forcing 17 turnovers.

The Golden Falcons will return home Saturday, February 7 to host Goldey-Beacom for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
