Philadelphia, PA. - The Felician University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 72-62 road win over Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Falcons end the regular season with a 21-7 overall record and 15-5 conference record.
In a game that featured multiple lead changes early, the Golden Falcons used a dominant performance in the paint and a strong fourth quarter push to pull away late.Â
Felician jumped out to a 19-14 lead after the opening quarter behind an aggressive interior attack. The Griffins battled back in the second, briefly taking the lead as the teams went back and forth. A late layup by
Ane Valle and a fast break finish by
Stephanie Formby gave Felician a 32-28 edge at halftime.
The third quarter proved pivotal. After Chestnut Hill trimmed the margin to one, Felician responded with a 9-0 stretch, highlighted by consecutive finishes inside from Formby. The team carried momentum into the final frame with a 54-50 lead.
Felician put the game away in the fourth, shooting 57 percent from the field and holding Chestnut Hill to just 12 points. A layup by
Karla Barreno gave the team its largest lead of the game at 10, and the advantage never dipped below seven the rest of the way.
Formby delivered a dominant performance, pouring in 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting while adding 11 rebounds for a double-double. Valle added 16 points and eight rebounds, as
Mckenzie Palek chipped in 11 points with seven assists.
The team shifts focus to the CACC Tournament as the #2 seed. The Golden Falcons will host Georgian Court in the quarterfinals Tuesday, March 3. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
