Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – In its final home game and last Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match of the 2011 season, the Felician College men's soccer team earned a convincing 5-1 victory over visiting Caldwell College on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Sophomore midfielder Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium/CERIA) registered two goals and an assist for Felician (9-8, 6-5 CACC).
The Golden Falcons won their final four CACC matches of the season. They finish with a winning record in conference play for the first time since going 5-3 in 2005.
Tuesday's match was evenly played until Felician broke through in the 36th minute. Maazouzi ran onto a pass into the 18-yard box from Adrian Sutcliffe (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England/Prudhoe) and one-touched it into the net. The hosts took a 2-0 lead into halftime on a header from freshman Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England/Sohihull Sixth Form College) with 2:33 to play in the period.
The Golden Falcons put the game away with three scores in a span of 7:45 in the early stages of the second half. Sutcliffe and Josh Delva (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) had a goal and an assist apiece for Felician. Golden Falcon freshman goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) made three saves to improve to 5-1 as a starter.
Caldwell freshman Dylan Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's Boys) scored on a breakway in the 73rd minute. Classmate Alex Cunha (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) stopped nine shots for the Cougars (6-8-2, 3-6-1).
Felician concludes the regular season at West Chester University on Thursday, then plays in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. with the site and opponent to be determined.
