Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – A goal by senior midfielder Carlos Canido (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) with 20 seconds left in the first half keyed No. 6 seed Felician College's 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal victory over No. 3 seed and defending champion Dominican (N.Y.) College on Monday afternoon at the OMM Complex.
Felician (10-9) has reached the CACC semifinals for the first time since 2005. The Golden Falcons advance to take on No. 7 seed Nyack College on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Nyack was a 4-0 first-round winner at Wilmington (Del.) University on Monday. The rest of the tournament will be hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Felician opened the scoring in the 28th minute when freshman defender Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England) was the man on the spot during a scramble in the box. A loose ball ended up on at foot of Onyeaka, who one-timed it inside the left post. But when Canido collected a free kick from Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium) and bent a shot in the net from the left wing as time in the opening period wound down, the hosts were in comeback mode.
Dominican (9-6-3) began to mount serious pressure in the latter stages of the contest. With exactly 12 minutes remaining, Jorge Zubillaga (Uruguay) won the ball on a goal kick, dribbled forward, and chipped a ball over the head of Felician goalkeeper Rafal Krauze (Randolph, NJ). The Chargers had two excellent chances in the closing minutes, just missing a header on a corner kick and on a ball played across the six-yard box, but could not equalize.
Krauze made a successful return from injury with five saves in his first start since Oct. 12. Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) stopped four shots for Dominican, which owned a 19-15 shot advantage.
