Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Senior midfielder Kevin Sinic (Leibnitz, Austria/Borg Monsberger) broke a scoreless tie with a 74th minute goal, and the Felician College men's soccer team went on to a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Sophomore Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium/CERIA) had a goal and an assist for the Golden Falcons.
Felician (5-6, 2-4 CACC) played into some bad luck at the start, hitting the crossbar and a post with shots in the opening 10 minutes. But after the game went into halftime scoreless, it was Chestnut Hill who generated the first strong scoring opportunity of period two. A miscommunication by the Golden Falcon defense led to a breakaway in the 50th minute, but Felician forward Mike Azzato (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) chased down the play and made a slide tackle to keep things knotted at 0-0.
Felician ran up an 18-8 advantage in shots for the day, and finally cashed in when Josh Delva (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) layed a ball off for Sinic. At 73:23, Sinic ran onto the ball and sent a line drive shot into the upper left corner of the net for his third goal of the season.
The Golden Falcons struck again 2:12 later, as Adrian Sutcliffe (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England/Prudhoe) headed home Mazzouzi's corner kick. Maazouzi capped the scoring with fewer than four minutes remaining, collecting a through-ball from Azzato and chipping the ball over the goalkeeper.
Felician freshman goalkeeper Rafal Krauze (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) needed just two saves to earn his third shutout of the season. Dave Sullivan (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) stopped three shots for the Griffins (5-6-1, 3-4). With the victory, the Golden Falcons surpassed their win total for all of last season.
