Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Holy Family University made back-to-back defensive stops in the final minute to key its 60-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
The closely-contested affair saw the teams stay within six points of each other for the entire contest. Holy Family (4-4, 1-2 CACC) took the largest lead for either team at 54-48 with 4:19 remaining in regulation, and was still ahead, 56-52, on a tip-in by Rickie Crews (Deptford, NJ) at the 2:30 mark. After the teams traded missed shots, Felician senior John Tello (Ridgefield Park, NJ) pulled his team within one point on a deep three-point field goal with 1:19 to play.
But the visitors would not score again. After the Tigers' Angel Ayala (Allentown, PA) split a pair of free throws, the HFU defense forced a turnover. Another foul ensued, and Holy Family's Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, NC) left the Golden Falcons a chance to tie by making 1 of 2 at the line at 0:20. But out of a timeout, Tello's baseline three-point attempt rimmed out, and Ayala made a pair of foul shots to seal the victory.
Tello led all scorers with 19 points and Tajric Boggs (Coram, NY) added 13 points and six steals for Felician (2-7, 2-3). Munoz finished with 16 points for the Tigers, who outscored the Golden Falcons, 17-5, at the foul line. HFU also owned a 41-30 rebounding advantage.
Holy Family led, 29-27, at halftime on a three-pointer by Maurice Hargrove (Philadelphia, PA) in the closing seconds. The game was tied five times in the second period, the last time at 48-48 with 6:54 remaining.
