Obery, Felician Finish Strong To Down Queens

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College outscored visiting Queens (N.Y.) College, 10-1, over the final 2 ½ minutes of action to earn a 58-54 non-conference men's basketball victory on Thursday night at Job Gymasium. Felician junior swingman Antoine Obery (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark), who scored the go-ahead basket with 1:22 to play, led the hosts with 12 points and a season-high 15 rebounds.

The Golden Falcons (4-7), who have won four of their last five games, survived a 26-point effort from Queens senior forward Khalil McDonald (Queens Village, NY/Campus Magnet). McDonald shot 9 for 11 from the floor, including 4 of 5 from three-point range, but no other Knight scored in double figures. Felician senior John Tello (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) backed Obery with his first double-double of the season (10 points, 10 rebounds, three steals) and teammate Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder) also netted 10 points.

A McDonald three-point field goal with 2:56 remaining in regulation gave the Knights (3-10) their largest lead of the game at 53-48. But treys by Felician's David Williamson (Bronx, NY/Wings Academy) and Green sandwiched a single McDonald free throw and tied the game at 54-54.

After Obery's go-ahead lay-up in transition, the teams traded pairs of empty possessions, leaving Queens with the ball and 48 seconds to play. After calling two timeouts and running down the shot clock, a driving lay-up by Nana Boateng (Brooklyn, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) rimmed out. Obery rebounded and a Tajric Boggs (Coram, NY/Longwood) lay-in with 8.4 seconds left sealed the Golden Falcon win.

Felician owned a 49-29 rebounding advantage, including 21-8 on the offensive glass. Both teams struggled from the floor, with Queens's 35 percent figure barely topping the Golden Falcons' 34-percent rate.
