Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College men's soccer team scored a 90th minute goal before falling to visiting Wilmington (Del.) University, 2-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action Monday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Felician (4-4-2, 3-3-2 CACC) remained tied for second place in the 12-team CACC with 11 points. The Golden Falcons, however, have played the most league games of any CACC team. Felician's last three conference matches are on the road, beginning with its October 6 tilt at Chestnut Hill College. The top eight teams at season's end qualify for the CACC playoffs.
On Monday, Wilmington (5-6, 3-4) took a 1-0 advantage into halftime. The Wildcats tacked on an insurance goal in the 79th minute, a development that became critical in the closing minute of the game when Wilmington goalkeeper Spyros Stergiotis (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge) had to bat a shot from Felician senior Josh Delva (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) over the crossbar in order to save it.
The Golden Falcons cashed in on the ensuing corner kick when junior Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium/CERIA) found the head of sophomore Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England/Solihull Sixth Form) with 28 seconds showing on the clock. But the hosts could not generate anything dangerous on the restart, and Wilmington claimed its third consecutive victory.
Junior Otis Williams (London, England/Hendon) and senior Ray Kuemmer (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) picked up the Wildcat goals, and Stergiotis finished with three saves. Junior Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) stopped six shots for Felician, including a pair from close range in the second half to keep his team in the game.
Maazouzi led all players with six shots, including a free kick off the right post in the fourth minute, and a second-half attempt that was cleared by a Wildcat defender shortly before Kuemmer's score.
