Men's Soccer Playoff Hopes Take Hit With Loss At Caldwell

Box Score

NOTE: On October 24, the result of this game was reversed by the NCAA, and Felician was awarded a 1-0 forfeit victory.

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Felician College men's soccer team was held to a season-low four shot attempts in its 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to host Caldwell College on Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field.

The setback put a serious damper in the CACC playoff hopes of Felician (4-7-2, 3-5-2), which dropped its fourth consecutive match. The Golden Falcons, who entered the day one point behind Caldwell, fell into a three-way tie for seventh place in the 12-team conference with 11 points, but have only one league match left to play. Felician travels to Nyack College to conclude 2012 CACC action on Wednesday, October 24.

The top eight teams in the conference standings at season's end will qualify for the conference tournament. With most of the other conference schools in contention having multiple games remaining, the possibility exists that Felician will be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention prior to meeting Nyack. The CACC standings can be viewed at http://www.caccathletics.org/sports/msoc/2012-13/standings.

On Tuesday, the Cougars (6-6-1, 5-3) came up with the winning marker fewer than four minutes into the second half. Caldwell sophomore Yousef Elhusseini (Old Bridge, N.J.) was able to launch a throw-in into the penalty area and find the foot of teammate Steve Petrosino (Toms River, N.J.). The sophomore defender finished for the Cougars at the 48:43 mark for his second goal of the season.

Scoring chances were scarce for the visitors throughout the day. Felician forced Cougar freshman goalkeeper Michael Hartman (Medford, N.J.) to make just one save to earn the shutout. Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J.) stopped four shots in defeat for the Golden Falcons. Junior midfielder Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium) got off three of Felician's four shots.

Felician tunes up for Nyack by playing a non-league game at Mercy College at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
