Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The University of the Sciences won the key points at the end of each set to earn a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-15) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
Senior outside Jenna Matesic (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) (nine digs, three service aces) and freshman opposite Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev./TMCC) led Felician (1-14, 1-8 CACC) with six kills apiece. Freshman setter Susan McKeever (North Fort Myers, Fla./N. Fort Myers) accumulated three kills, 19 assists and 11 digs. The Golden Falcons could not take advantage of their season-high 10 aces.
In the three sets, the teams combined for 21 ties and 11 lead changes. The opening set was tied on nine occasions, the final instance at 19-19, before USciences (10-9, 5-4) took six out of the final seven points.
Felician broke away from a tightly played second set for a 23-20 advantage. But USciences kept the Golden Falcons from scoring again in the set, running off the final five points. Three consecutive kills from freshman Desirae Lair (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas) ended the set in the Devils' favor.
USciences took control midway through the third set. Leading 16-14, the Devils produced eight consecutive points. Felician finally produced a side-out for a 23-15 deficit, but consecutive kills by USciences sophomore Rachel Martin (Troy, N.Y./Troy) secured the match victory for the visitors.
