Women's Basketball Enters Win Column In Home Opener

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – A tying three-point field goal by junior guard Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and a go-ahead jump shot from sophomore guard Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y./Oak Hill Academy) in the closing minutes keyed Felician College's 63-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday evening at Job Gymnasium.

Felician (1-5, 1-0 CACC) was playing its 2012-13 home opener, as well as its first CACC contest of the season. Meanwhile, Wednesday marked the fifth consecutive game away from home for Concordia (1-7, 0-3).

After a first half that featured six ties and four lead changes, the Clippers emerged with a 32-30 halftime lead on a late three-pointer from KellyAnn Sullivan (Amity Harbor, N.Y./Copiague). The teams were never separated by more than five points in the second period, with Concordia holding on to a slim lead for most of the half.

With 4:11 left in regulation, Clipper junior Victoria Jones (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) nailed a jumper for a 59-56 lead. Both teams then went cold for more than two minutes, until Peguero (6 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts) took a long inbounds pass from Shakeema Green (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) and buried a game-tying three -- her only field goal of the night.

After the squads traded turnovers, Scanlon made a steal, pulled up, and drained a jumper from the left elbow to put the Golden Falcons ahead, 61-59, with 1:13 to play. Concordia was unable to drop a tying shot on the ensuing possession, and Felician junior Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) sealed the victory with a pair of free throws.

Plummer finished with game highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Sierra McDuffie (Paterson, N.J./PCTI) scored a season-high 14 points for Felician. Green provided seven assists and five steals off the bench. Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y./August Marin) led four double-figure scorers for the Clippers with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
