Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Dominican (N.Y.) College men's basketball team used an efficient effort on both sides of the ball to notch a 74-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Felician College on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Dominican (15-8, 8-7 CACC) shot 50 percent from the floor for the night, and held Felician to 27-percent accuracy. The Chargers offense produced 21 assists and committed just 10 turnovers. The visitors received a game-high 20 points from junior frontcourtman Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley), who made 8 of 13 field-goal attempts.

The Chargers, who never trailed, took control early, opening up a 16-4 lead after seven minutes, 40 seconds, of action. With 3:51 remaining in the first half, Dominican had stretched to a 22-point edge, and took that same margin, 41-19, into halftime. The Golden Falcons were held to 17-percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

Neither team scored for the first three minutes of period two, but the Chargers eventually opened up their largest lead, 54-25, with 12:38 remaining. The closest Felician would come thereafter was a 15-point deficit on three occasions.

Senior John Tello (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) led Felician (6-17, 3-12) with 10 points, and classmate Jimmy Schmitt (Elmwood Park, NJ/Elmwood Park) added nine points and seven rebounds. The eight points scored by freshman forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, NJ/Linden) were a season high. Dominican junior Leon Porter (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) picked up eight points and seven assists.

The loss eliminated Felician from CACC playoff contention. Dominican remained in third place in the North Division, one game ahead of fifth-place Caldwell College for the final tournament spot.
