Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Junior Lau SanFilippo (North Bergen, N.J./Hoboken) scored his first collegiate goal, lifting Felician College to a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The game was Felician's 2012 home opener, and the first CACC game of the season for both schools.
The contest's only scoring came 17 minutes, 17 seconds, into play. SanFilippo accepted a quick, low cross from teammate Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium/CERIA) and finished with a single touch from about 10 yards away. SanFilippo is playing the striker position for the first time this season after two years as a defender.
The Golden Falcons (2-1, 1-0) stopped Concordia forward Ekene Okereke (Beliefield, Germany/Montville [N.J.]), the reigning CACC Player of the Week, on two strong second half scoring chances. Felician goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) made a diving save on an Okereke shot in the 72nd minute. With fewer than five minutes remaining, Okereke got free 1 v. 1 with Tsouhnikas, who came forward to cut off Okereke's angle and forced a wide shot.
Felician owned a modest 14-12 advantage in shots, including 8-3 in the first half, and successfully defended six Clipper corner kicks for the game. Tsouhnikas earned the shutout with two saves, and also intercepted a pair of long throw-ins late in the second period.
Victor Ruiz (Gijon, Spain/Corazon de Maria) led Concordia (1-2, 0-1) with four shot attempts. Clipper keeper Luis Barajas (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) was credited with three saves. Maazouzi got off four shots (one on goal) for Felician.
