Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite 22 kills by sophomore Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev./Reed) and a double-double from classmate Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz./Perry), the Felician College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (24-26, 25-13, 29-27, 25-22) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Holy Family University on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

The match hinged on the third set, Felician's longest of the season. With the teams tied, 1-1, Set 3 featured 13 ties and six lead changes. Holy Family came back from deficits of 8-3, 16-13, and 22-19, using a shared block by Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) to tie the set at 23-23. Felician then saved a pair of set points before Tiger sophomore Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) recorded kills on four of the set's final five rallies for a 29-27 win for the visitors.

Set 4 was tight in the early going before HFU (9-10, 6-4 CACC) extended a 14-13 edge to 21-14. Trailing 24-18, the Golden Falcons saved four match points before a kill by freshman Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) gave the Tigers the victory.

Emerson, who hit .364 for the day, was the only Felician attacker in double figures in kills. She added eight digs and two blocks. Sophomore middle Kayla Gallagher (Bloomingburg, N.Y./Pine Bush) also hit .364 and posted nine kills and four blocks, and Shebel, splitting time between setter and defensive specialist, finished with 14 assists, 13 digs and two aces.

Felician (4-10, 4-6) extended its school-record streak of winning sets to seven when it stole Set 1, 26-24, saving two set points and winning the final four rallies. The set featured 14 ties and eight lead changes. Holy Family, however, never trailed in Set 2, opening up advantages of 6-1 and 16-9. The four sets combined to showcase 34 ties and 16 changes of lead.

Herring paced four Tiger attackers in double figures with a school-record 28 kills, nine digs and four aces. Keegan broke her own HFU record by handing off 61 assists and also had 11 digs.
