Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Junior midfielder Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson Institute) scored once in each half and junior defender/midfielder Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France/Jean Mermoz) picked up his first goal of the season as Felician College defeated visiting Caldwell College, 4-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The match ended the 2013 season for both schools.
Felician (4-11-2, 4-7-1 CACC) produced its highest offensive output in more than two years, since a 5-1 victory over Caldwell on Oct. 25, 2011. The Golden Falcons and Cougars (7-10-1, 4-7-1) ended in a tie for 10th place in the CACC standings.
Felician opened the scoring in the 38th minute when senior midfielder Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium/CERIA) connected with Coronel on a nifty touch pass between two defenders in the middle of the offensive half. Coronel put the ball in, and the hosts took the 1-0 edge into halftime.
The Golden Falcons struck again fewer than four minutes into the second period. Freshman midfielder Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) ran onto a through-ball down the left flank and got open 1 v. 1 against Caldwell sophomore goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, N.J./Shawnee). Hartmann denied a Telfer attempt, but Coronel collected the rebound, moved to his right, and calmly struck the ball inside the left post.
Shortly after entering the game as a substitute, Felician sophomore defender Tarek Sebiat (Chalfont St. Peter's, England/Dr. Challoner's) sent a 73rd minute cross from near the right corner to the far post. Jean volleyed the ball into the goal to lock up the victory for the Golden Falcons, who received a Caldwell own goal with 40 seconds to play.
The Cougars finished with a 16-15 shot advantage, but Felician senior keeper Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) made five saves to end his collegiate career with a clean sheet. The Golden Falcons also successfully defended eight second-half corner kicks from the visitors, and nine in total.
Hartmann also ended up with five saves. Christian Castro (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and Kyle Felton (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) took four shots each for Caldwell, while Coronel claimed game-high honors with five.
Coronel pushed his season total to eight goals and moved into the top 10 in the CACC in that category.
Felician completed 2013 with a three-match unbeaten streak during which they allowed one goal in 305 minutes.
