Box Score NEWARK, Del. – An aggressive Wilmington (Del.) University offense scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half to take control of an eventual 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. Earlier on Tuesday, Wilmington (2-0, 1-0 CACC) was installed as the No. 22-ranked team in the national NCAA Division II coaches' poll.
Both the Golden Falcons and Wildcats were playing their first CACC match of 2013.
Wilmington blanked Felician, 9-0, in the first half in shots and racked up an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks for the period. But the hosts were able to cash in just once, on a header by junior Victor Lima (Londrina, Brazil) in the 38th minute. But the Wildcats put the game away almost immediately after halftime.
Fewer than three minutes into period two, Wildcat sophomore Femi Akintunde (Thamesmead, England) got free in the box on Felician goalkeeper Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J.). Akintunde then pushed the ball left to wide open teammate Elton Joe (Baltimore, Md.) for an easy goal. Akintunde capped the scoring at the 52:31, knocking home a cross with one touch.
Wroblewski (63 minutes, three goals allowed) and Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) (27, 0) combined to make seven saves for the Golden Falcons (0-2, 0-1). Junior midfielder Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico) produced two of Felician's three shot attempts, including the only one on frame. Joe got off five shots for the Wildcats.
