Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Felician College men's soccer team amassed a season-high 11 corner kicks, but was out-shot, 17-9, in a 2-0 non-conference loss to host Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon on the QC campus.
The goals for Queens (2-1-1) bookended the first half. The Knights dented the scoreboard just one minute, 34 seconds, into the match on the first shot attempt by either team. Senior Jose Lopez (Great Neck, N.Y.) sent a cross into the 18-yard box that teammate Pol Narbana (Barcelona, Spain) was able to volley into the net with one touch.
Felician (0-3) nearly equalized immediately. Just 19 seconds after the kickoff, Golden Falcon freshman midfielder Makesi Lewis (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) got off an open shot and forced Queens senior goalkeeper Sean Geoghegan (Naas City, Ireland) to make a high-difficulty save.
Queens then began to pepper Golden Falcon keeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) with shot attempts, but it took a strange play late in the period for the hosts to cash in again. With just 1:02 showing on the clock, Knight sophomore midfielder Glen Reid (Falkirk, Scotland) bent a corner kick directly into the net.
The second half continued the game's trend of physical play. The teams combined to be whistled for 30 fouls on the afternoon. But Felician could convert six second-half corners into only four total shot attempts. The final offensive surge for the visitors came in the 87th minute, but a try by junior striker Chris Hall (Newcastle, England) missed wide.
Geoghegan made four saves to pick up the solo shutout. Making his first start of 2013, Tsouhnikas stopped eight shots. Lewis and Danny Hoyos (Perth Amboy, N.J.) topped a balanced Felician attack with two shots apiece.
