Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – After three road matches, the Felician College men's soccer team played its 2013 home opener on Thursday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The change of scenery was unable to alter the fortunes of the Golden Falcon offense, however, as Felician dropped a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference decision to Dominican (N.Y.) College.
Felician (0-4, 0-2 CACC) has been outscored, 8-0, on the year.
The Golden Falcons got off to a shaky start on Thursday. Dominican (4-2, 2-0) controlled play early, and nearly took the lead in the 23rd minute if not for Felician senior goalkeeper Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) stopping a breakaway.
After being frustrated several times by the Golden Falcons' offside trap, Dominican stayed onside and cashed in late in the first period. Senior defender Cleiton Coppola (Vinhedo, Brazil/Winchendon School) played a ball down the right flank that teammate Calogero Curcuru (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) ran onto. Curcuru curved a shot inside the near post at the 32:33 mark, and the Chargers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the 12th minute of the second half, Dominican struck again. Matheus Sousa (Cuiaba, Brazil/St. Thomas More) left a ball for sophomore midfielder Lukas Nordin (Lidkoping, Sweden/De La Gardie Gymnasiet), who dribbled forward and put a blast from 20 yards out over Wroblewski and under the crossbar.
Felician eventually picked up its level of play, attempting nine second-half shot attempts. The Golden Falcons out-shot Dominican for the day, 12-11, forcing Charger keeper Andres Ruiz (Medellin, Colombia/Westhill) to make six saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
Jonathan Mensah (Accra, Ghana/College HS) paced the Golden Falcon offense with four shots. Wroblewski finished with four saves.
The Chargers were whistled 17 times for offside violations.
