Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College defense cleared two balls off of the goal line in the second half, giving its offense an opportunity to score in the fourth minute of overtime and earn a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visitng Felician College on Sunday afternoon at Churchman-Sawin Field.
Goldey-Beacom senior striker Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) scored the game-winner for his ninth goal of the season. Sophomore Erik Tapper (Linkoming, Sweden) sent a cross from the right corner that Ristow was able to head inside the near post with three minutes, 22 seconds, gone by in extra time.
Felician freshman goalkeeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) made five first-half saves to help keep the match scoreless at halftime, and the visitors experienced a bit of back luck when a Chris Hall (Newcastle, England) shot hit the crossbar in the 23rd minute. The Lightning then dented the scoreboard in the 64th minute on a 35 yard blast from freshman Cameron Wilkinson (Terrigal, Australia) that clanged off the inside of the right post and into the goal.
The Golden Falcons (2-11, 2-6) came up with the equalizer with 11:25 showing on the second-half clock. Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France) sent a cross from the right flank into the 18-yard box that teammate Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J.) sent into the lower right corner.
Shortly thereafter, Telfer was denied on two attempts at the go-ahead score. After having a shot blocked, Telfer was the first player to the rebound. His second offering was saved by a defender with 8:57 to play.
GBC (7-5, 5-2) owned edges of 22-10 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks. Burns finished the afternoon with eight saves, while Lightning freshman Marcus Arrvidsson (Toby, Sweden) stopped three shots.
Ristow's goal was the first shot attempt for either team in overtime.
