Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College men's soccer was dangerous on offense throughout the match, but was unable to put a ball past the goal line in its 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Bloomfield College on Thursday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Bloomfield (4-8, 4-4 CACC) picked up the game's only goal on the first shot attempt by either team. In the seventh minute, Bear sophomore forward Rafique Roberts (Portmore, Jamaica/Munro College) stole the ball from a Felician defender who was attempting to clear it out of the 18-yard box. Felician senior goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) appeared to have Roberts' ensuing shot lined up for the save, but the ball bounded off of a Felician player and changed direction just enough to get past Tsouhnikas and into the net.
Midfield play dominated the balance of the first half, with each team being credited with only three shot attempts. Bloomfield sophomore keeper Arthur Clapot (Annecy, France/Ecole Moulin de Preuilly) preserved the lead when his quick reaction denied a point-blank-range shot from Golden Falcon senior David Jakubik (Henryville, Pa./Pocono Mountain East). The Golden Falcons also ran into a bit of back luck in the 37th minute when Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico) hit the crossbar with a free kick. The ball bounded back onto the pitch, and a header from Felician midfielder Chris Hall (Newcastle, England/St. Cuthbert's) missed high.
The Golden Falcons (2-13, 2-8) also produced the two best scoring opportunities of the second period. Coronel pushed an attempt wide on a Felician breakaway in the 69th minute, and was denied on a leaping save by Clapot with just more than four minutes remaining.
Clapot earned his first shutout of the season with four saves. Felician senior Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France/Jean Mermoz) saw his point-scoring streak ended at five matches.
Eight Felician seniors – Coronel, Hall, Danny Hoyos (Perth Amboy, N.J./Perth Amboy), Jakubik, Jean, Jonathan Mensah (Accra, Ghana/College HS), Kabari Palmer (Kingston, Jamaica/Calabar) and Tsouhnikas – were honored in a pre-game Senior Night ceremony.
