Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia University scored three times in the final 29 minutes to seal its 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. Junior transfer Kevin Cueva (Lumberton, N.J.) scored the Felician goal, his first as a Golden Falcon.
The victory moved Philadelphia (11-4-1, 7-2-1 CACC) into a three-way tie for second place in the CACC.
Ram senior midfielder Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe) opened the scoring in the ninth minute, putting a ball inside the left post from 14 yards away. Felician, which allowed 11 shots and eight corner kicks in the first half, almost escaped the period without further damage. But with 5:04 remaining, Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario) got free in the center of the box, received a cross, and finished.
As the second half approached the 15 minutes-played mark, Ram relief goalkeeper Neil Kwiatkowski (Schnectady, N.Y.) made a diving save of a shot from Golden Falcon senior Rafa Coronel (Mexico, City, Mexico). Cueva was the first to the rebound, and put the ball past the goal line before Kwiatkowski could recover.
Any thought Felician harbored of a comeback was ended after 85 more seconds of game time. With 28:31 remaining, Chagona scored his second of the game, and the Rams struck again 6:20 later on a 16-yard goal from Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass.). A C.J. Moore (Atlanta, Ga.) tally in the 90th minute provided the Rams with the final margin.
Chagonda finished with two goals and an assist and Lynch a goal and an assist for the hosts. The Rams rolled up advantages of 24-5 in shots and 12-2 in corners for the afternoon. Felician senior goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) recorded six saves.
Felician concludes its 2014 season with a CACC match at Caldwell University on Oct. 28.
