Women's Basketball Wins, Gets Help, Makes CACC Playoffs

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior forward Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Felician College women's basketball team to a 66-34 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. With the win, Felician (11-14, 9-9 CACC) earned a berth in the 2014 CACC playoffs.

The Golden Falcons leapt past Post University by ½ game and into a tie with Dominican (N.Y.) College for third place in the CACC North Division. Both the Chargers (11-14, 9-9) and Eagles were defeated in their conference contests on Saturday. Felician and Dominican have one game left to play, while the league season for Post (9-16, 9-10) is complete. The Golden Falcons own tiebreaker advantages over both schools, thus can be no worse than the North's No. 4 seed.

Felician put up its best defensive effort in more than three years on Saturday. The Golden Falcons held Chestnut Hill (8-17, 6-12) to 12 second-half points and to 20-percent shooting for the game. The last time Felician allowed fewer points in a game was in a 46-31 home victory over Saint Anselm College on Nov. 20, 2010.

Felician owned a 53-35 rebounding advantage. Junior forward Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) joined Plummer in posting a "double-double," turning in 15 points and 10 rebounds, and senior center Que Lyles (Bronx, N.Y./Banana Kelly) had eight points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

The Golden Falcons, who never trailed, opened up an edge of 26-10 after 13 minutes of game action. CHC trimmed its deficit to 10 points before going to halftime trailing, 35-22.

After a jump shot by Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) brought the Griffins to within 46-32 at the 12:40 mark, Felician held the visitors without a field goal for the duration of the contest. Two free throws by Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J./Holy Spirit) at 7:38 were the last points CHC would tally for the day.

Junior guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) topped the Griffins with 12 points. Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) tallied 10 points and six rebounds for Felician.

The Golden Falcons conclude their regular season by hosting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Felician's five seniors – Keisha Jean-Louis (Somerville, Mass./Somerville), Lyles, Gisell Peguero (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood), Plummer and Saunders – will be honored in pre-game Senior Night festivities.

The first round of the CACC Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 1. Felician's quarterfinal site, opponent, and time has yet to be determined.
