Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – A goal in the ninth minute of overtime lifted East Stroudsburg University to a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over host Felician College on Thursday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician was playing in its 2014 home opener.
Felician (0-3) went out to its first lead of the season in the 12th minute of the match, benefiting from an East Stroudsburg own goal. Golden Falcon senior Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France/Jean Mermoz) lined up a free kick from the right side of the pitch, sending it airborne and into the penalty area. An ESU defender leapt to attempt a header clear, but accidentally flicked the ball into the left side of the net.
The one-goal edge for the hosts held through halftime. Felician out-shot the Warriors, 7-4, in the opening period, but the momentum appeared to switch in the early stages of the second half. After missing on some threatening opportunities, ESU cashed in during the 58th minute on a give-and-go with Andrew McGinley (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford) and Christian Bukowski (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg). McGinley blasted home a 15-yard shot to finish the play.
The same duo hooked up for the game-winner at 98:18. This time, Bukowski dribbled into the box and sent a quick pass to his right to McGinley, who was able to volley the ball inside the right post.
