Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Wilmington (Del.) University used a goal with nine minutes, 20 seconds, left in regulation to earn a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over host Felician College on Thursday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Wilmington (5-1, 2-0 CACC) won its fifth consecutive match after a season-opening loss.
The Wildcats are the No. 5-ranked team in the latest NCAA Division-II East Region coaches' poll.
Senior goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) stood tall for Felician (0-6, 0-2), making four first-half saves. Then, in the 78th minute, Tsouhnikas stonewalled Wildcat senior Pedro Moreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Santo Agostinho), who had gotten free on a breakaway.
Moreira would get revenge shortly thereafter. As the game clock ticked under the 10-minute mark, Moreira ran to the right of teammate Juan Bernal (Mississauga, Ontario/Iona Catholic), who pushed him a pass. As Tsouhnikas came out to greet Moreira, the Brazilian midfielder loaded up and blasted a low shot that beat Tsouhniikas through his legs.
The Golden Falcons came up empty on two corner kicks down the stretch, and were unable to capitalize on a 6-2 edge in corners for the night. The Wildcats out-shot Felician, 11-5, with senior Vitor Lima (Londrina, Brazil/Universitario) leading the way with five. Senior Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France/Jean Mermoz) topped the hosts with three shot attempts.
Keepers Frank Hall (Newark, Del./Newark) and Zach Lee (Newark, Del./Christiana) split the shutout for Wilmington, with Lee picking up his second victory of the season..
