Box Score LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action with a 3-0 league victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Victory Field.
Senior midfielder Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up a goal and two assists for Chestnut Hill (2-3-1, 2-0-1 CACC).
The Griffins were seemingly on the attack from the opening kickoff. In the match's first 20 minutes, CHC got off four shots and attempted four corner kicks. The pressure paid off at the 24:20 mark, when Jaffe found classmate Channing Coulliard (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) in the left corner of the 18-yard box. Coulliard was able to find the back of the net to dent the scoreboard.
The momentum seemed to shift slightly after the Griffin goal. Felician (0-7, 0-3) was able to generate several opportunies, but could not break through. On a corner kick in the 34th minute, a header from Felician senior Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico) forced CHC goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) to make his only save of the day. The Golden Falcons came up empty on two additional corners in the final eight minutes of the period.
The hosts extended their advantage on a quality individual effort by Jaffe in the 69th minute. He was able to beat a pair of defenders 1 v. 1 and get himself free for a strike from the left flank. With 6:35 left in regulation, Jaffe fed Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) near the right post for the final margin.
Chestnut Hill out-shot the Golden Falcons, 15-8, including 8-4 in the second half. Amaya and Couillard led all players with five shots apiece, while Coronel topped Felician with three. Felician keeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) stopped five shots in defeat.
