Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J.. – Georgian Court University scored four times in the first 19 minutes of its 8-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Investors Savings Bank Field.
Sophomore forward Michael Clarke (Essex, England) finished with three goals and an assist for Georgian Court (3-3-2, 3-0-1 CACC). He scored twice in a stretch of 79 seconds early in the opening period, and completed the hat trick in the 79th minute. GCU sophomore midfielder Garrett McVeigh (Cherry Hill, N.J.) tallied three assists, and teammates Brad Golec (Evansville, Ind.) and Joe Esposito (Beachwood, N.J.) recorded two helpers apiece.
Felician goalkeepers Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) and John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) each played 45 minutes, allowed four goals, and made five saves. The Golden Falcon defense also cleared a ball off the goal line.
Lion senior Ben Vergara (Toms River, N.J.) put the hosts in the lead just 4:45 into the action. Emiliano Baquerizo (Guyanquil, Ecuador) headed home a 14th minute GCU corner kick, and Clarke's first two scores gave GCU the 4-0 edge it took into halftime, effectively ending the day's drama. The Lions added four more scores in the second period, including the conversion of another corner kick and a penalty kick.
GCU racked up advantages of 26-4 in shots and 10-1 in corners. The Lions used 29 players in the game, with 16 of them attempting at least one shot. Keeper Sebastian Mikuska (Augsburg, Germany) earned the shutout with four saves.
Felician allowed its most goals since an 8-1 loss at Mercy College on Oct. 8, 2012. The last time the Golden Falcons gave up more was during the 2001 NAIA National Tournament in a 12-2 loss to Lindsey Wilson College.
