Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. – St. Thomas Aquinas College held off a late charge from visiting Felician College to earn a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Golden Falcons on Monday afternoon at Spartan Field.
St. Thomas Aquinas junior forward Michael Corbi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) registered all three of his team's goals. Corbi book-ended the match by tallying two minutes, 50 seconds, into the match, and with two minutes, 29 seconds remaining. His goal in the 38th minute, however, proved to be the game-winner.
After Corbi gave the Spartans a 2-0 halftime lead, Felician (1-9) drew closer when an Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France) free kick located the head of fellow senior Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico), whose header found the back of the net in the 68th minute.
Felician sophomore defender Kesi Lewis (Arima, Trinidad) helped preserve the one-goal deficit when he cleared a ball off the goal line with 14 ½ minutes to play. But STAC sophomore goalkeeper Aiden Tansey (Yonkers, N.Y.) made two of his five saves down the stretch, and the Spartans successfully defended a Golden Falcon corner kick shortly before Corbi was freed by a flick from teammate Julius Werner (Westergellersen, Germany) to seal the victory for the hosts.
STAC ran up an 18-9 shot advantage, including 12-4 in the first half. Corbi led all players with six shot attempts. Senior Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J.) started in goal for Felician and was credited with five first-half saves.
Felician ends a stretch of four consecutive road matches by hosting Holy Family University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt on Saturday night.
