Rams Top Felician With Late Scoring Binge

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Philadelphia University scored three goals in a span of 12-plus minutes to break a 1-1 second-half tie and earn a 5-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over host Felician College on Saturday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.

Freshman forward Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y./St. Joseph-Montvale [N.J.]) scored both Felician goals. Monfort moved into sixth place in the CACC with seven goals on the season.

Philadelphia freshman midfielder Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) came off the bench to register the first two goals of his career. Seniors Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown) and Cesar Romero (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) each had a goal and an assist for the Rams (6-3-3, 4-2-1 CACC).

Rocha's goal in the 34th minute was the only scoring of the first half. Felician obtained the equalizer in dramatic fashion just more than 13 minutes into period two. Monfort dribbled over midfield and, noticing Ram goalkeeper Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md./Perry Hall Christian) was off his line, launched a shot from nearly 50 yards away that sailed over Sauer's head and entered the goal on one hop.

The score remained knotted as the game clock wound under 25 minutes. Suddenly, a through-ball from Romero freed Calwrie amid the Felician defense, and Calwrie sent a low shot across the goal line with 24:39 to play. With exactly 21:00 left, Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) tallied to give the visitors a 3-1 edge.

The teams scored 33 seconds apart in the 78th and 79th minutes before Rocha picked up his second goal of the match with 29 seconds left to play. Felician senior Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) assisted on Monfort's second score.

Philadelphia led the night in shots, 15-7, including a 10-5 second-half margin. Rocha topped all players with five attempts. Sophomore keeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) made six saves for the Golden Falcons (2-10, 1-7).
