Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. – Felician College was unable to put a shot on goal in the run of play in its 2-1 non-conference loss to host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.
St. Thomas Aquinas (4-10-1) out-shot the Golden Falcons, 24-12, and owned a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. Trailing, 2-0, with two minutes, three seconds, remaining in regulation time, was awarded a penalty kick, which freshman Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y.) converted. It was the only shot on goal of the game for the visitors.
Senior midfielder Michael Wagner (Chester, N.Y.) allowed STAC to break through on the scoreboard, when, assisted by Ivan Gomez (Elmhurst, N.Y.), he earned his first goal of the year in the match's 20th minute. The Spartans carried the 1-0 edge into halftime.
The score remained 1-0 until exactly 17 minutes were left to play. That was when STAC freshman Luis Morales (Port Chester, N.Y.) netted a key insurance goal, an unassisted tally. After Monfort's goal, the only attack the Golden Falcons could mount in the time that remained was whistled offside.
Felician sophomore goalkeeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) kept his team competitive throughout the afternoon, matching a career high with 11 saves. Burns is the first Golden Falcon keeper since Paulo dos Santos in 2007 (141) to surpass 100 saves in a season. He currently has 104.
Monfort's goal was his 10th of 2015, the first Felician player to reach that mark since Quincy Small in 2009.
Felician concludes its season by hosting Caldwell University on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Forward Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J.) will be honored in a pre-game Senior Night ceremony.
