Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician College erased a two-goal second-half deficit, but could not accomplish the feat a second time, in a 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer loss to visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Dominican graduate midfielder Luis DelPezo (Portchester, N.Y./Rye) completed the day with two goals and an assist. Graduate midfielder Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson Institute) had a goal and an assist for Felician (2-9, 1-6 CACC).
The Chargers had the better of play for the majority of the first half, appearing to dominate possession time while rolling up statistical advantages of 9-2 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks. But Dominican was able to only build a 1-0 halftime advantage. In the 24th minute, a corner by Vincent Piccoli (Elwood, N.Y./John H. Glenn) found the head of Charger teammate Lukas Nordin (Lidkoping, Sweden/de la Gardie Gymnasiet), who was able to finish in traffic.
The match's final 45 minutes featured six goals and six cards. After DelPezo gave Dominican a 2-0 lead, Felician quickly responded with a pair of goals exactly three minutes apart. Senior forward Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) collected a long cross from Dean Wright (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Chisholm) and put the Golden Falcons on the scoreboard, and, with 23:01 left in regulation, freshman Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y./St. Joseph-Montvale [N.J.]) settled a long ball from Coronel and chipped a ball over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar to equalize.
The Chargers restored their two-goal advantage almost as quickly. DelPezo scored, then helped on a James Gragson (Topeka, Kan./Topeka) marker 28 seconds later, both in the 74th minute. The Dominican lead appeared to be safe until a Felician attacker was brought down from behind in the penalty area with 8:34 to play. Coronel converted the ensuing penalty kick to pull the Golden Falcons within 4-3.
The match ended anti-climactically, however, as neither team put a shot at goal for the balance of the contest. Dominican (2-8, 2-4) finished with a 21-6 shot advantage, led by five attempts from DelPezo.
