Men's Basketball Drops 62-53 Home Decision To Nyack

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's basketball team fell behind by 18 points in the first half of its 62-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

Nyack junior guard Robert Tyler (Beltsville, Md./Prince George's CC) led all players with 17 points. Senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds and junior guard Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) added 11 points for Felician (4-6, 2-4 CACC).

A transition dunk by senior Frank Martin (Miami, Fla./Doral Academy) gave Nyack (4-6, 2-3) a 14-6 lead after seven minutes, two seconds, of game action. The Warriors led by 10 with 7:05 remaining in the first half, then, after a Miavivululu bucket, the visitors rattled off a 10-0 run, capped off by a Calvin Willis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Collegiate) lay-up, for a 34-16 lead at the 4:26 mark. Nyack took a 38-24 edge into halftime.

Felician closed the gap to seven, 45-38, on back-to-back lay-ups by Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech), the latter with 11:30 to go in the contest. But, out of a timeout, Nyack senior Imran Ritchie (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) nailed a three-pointer to restore a 10-point edge.

Trailing by 12 with 7:16 to play, the Golden Falcons tallied seven consecutive points to pull to within 56-51. But the hosts had three empty offensive trips with that score, including a pair of turnovers. After a Massado jumper made it 58-53 at the 2:41 mark, Felician did not score again.

The Golden Falcons were limited to 36-percent shooting from the floor, including a 25-percent clip in the opening period. Junior Jordan Compas (Yonkers, N.Y./St. Anthony [N.J.]) totaled nine points for Felician, as did Jaron Smith (Bayonne, N.J./Raritan Valley CC) for the Warriors. Martin finished with seven points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Felician is off until it participates in the James Clancy Tournament, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College, on Jan. 2-3, 2016.
