Men's Soccer Scores First But Can't Hold Off Bloomfield

Box Score

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Bloomfield College tallied five second half goals to pull away for a 6-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Wednesday night at Foley Field.

Junior forward Paulo Claudio (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored four times and added an assist for Bloomfield (2-2-1, 1-1 CACC).

For the first half, the Bears rolled up advantages of 12-2 in shots and 8-1 in corner kicks. But the hosts could only come out of the period even at 1-1. Felician (1-3, 0-2) was the first team to dent the scoreboard on an unassisted score by freshman midfielder Jorge Pelayo (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) with 11:42 left in the half. But fewer than two minutes later, Claudio found the back of the net to knot the score.

The Bears took the lead for the first time in the 55th minute. Junior Mauricio Torrelaba (Sao Paulo, Brazil) received a service into the 18-yard box from teammate Shacquille Brown (Springfield, St. Thomas) and was able to get a shot past Golden Falcon junior goalkeeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.). Claudio converted a penalty kick with 28:13 left in regulation, and got free on a breakaway just more than 10 minutes later.

A Claudio corner kick found the head of Brown to make it 5-1 in the 73rd minute, and Claudio completed the scoring with his fourth goal of the night with 11:12 to play.

Burns faced a total of 28 shots, 10 by Claudio, and matched a career high with 11 saves. Felician was limited to three shot attempts. Bloomfield's final edge in corner kicks for the match was 13-1.

Felician has scored first in both of its CACC losses this season.
