Box Score NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington (Del.) University men's soccer team scored five goals in the first 30 minutes and went on to a 9-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
Wilmington (4-1, 2-0 CACC) is ranked No. 4 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches poll, and received votes nationally.
Junior midfielder Clifford Nwechefom (Port Harcourt, Nigeria) and senior midfielder Lance Berry (Bear, Del.) each had two goals and an assist and junior forward Stephen O'Connor (Hertfordshire, England) also scored twice for the Wildcats, who out-shot Felician, 31-5. Sixteen players took at least one shot for Wilmington.
Felician graduate midfielder Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico) spoiled the clean sheet for Wilmington with two minutes, 52 seconds to play in the contest. A through ball by freshman forward Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y.) freed Coronel 1 v. 1 with the goalkeeper, and Coronel chipped a ball over the top and below the crossbar for his first goal of the season and the 13th of his career.
Freshman goalkeeper Wilson Perez (Hackensack, N.J.) made his collegiate debut for Felician (1-4, 0-3), playing the second half. Starter John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and Perez combined to make nine saves.
