Men's Soccer Loses Opener At Shippensburg, 3-0

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Felician College committed two fouls in the penalty area in a late first-half span of two minutes, 13 seconds, and host Shippensburg University turned both into goals in its 3-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Golden Falcons under unseasonably humid conditions on Thursday afternoon at David See Field. The match was the 2015 season opener for both schools.

Shippensburg racked up advantages of 31-8 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks. Senior midfielder Derek Adams (Lititz, Pa.) produced a goal and an assist for the Raiders.

Shippensburg was the more aggressive side as the match began, producing two corners and getting off six shots in the first 11 minutes. But the Raiders could not cash in until they were awarded a penalty kick with three minutes, 16 seconds, left in the opening period. Adams converted to put the hosts on the scoreboard.

Felician was again whistled for a foul inside the box with 1:03 to play in the half. This time, Golden Falcon sophomore goalkeeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) stopped Adams' attempt. But Shippensburg senior Robert Furfaro (Chambersburg, Pa.) was the first man to the rebound, and pushed the ball by Burns.

Raider senior James Connor (Manchester, England) knocked home a header in the 65th minute to conclude the day's scoring.

Burns was credited with five saves. Felician forced Shippensburg keeper Matt Harder (Reston, Va.) to make only one stop. Senior midfielder Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico) topped the Golden Falcons with five shot attempts, while Connor led all players with nine.
